Settled In:
What's up! I can't believe it's been something like 3 months since last time
I posted on here. I've finally settled in to the point where I feel like I can
sit down and write an update post.
First of all, we finally moved! We've been all moved in and set up for almost 3
months now, and it's been great. I started working as a service technician at Micro
Center within a week of moving in too, and it's easily the best job I've ever had.
I get paid more than I ever have, and it's the first job I've worked with coworkers
that I'd legitimately want to hang out with outside of work. It's a hard job with
long hours and highly demanding of mental energy, but I'd say it's worth it, and I
feel like I'm in a very good spot at the moment.
A lot of things have happened, but the main things I want to talk about are:
- Bunny
- My Office
- Retro Gaming
Bunny:
Bunny is one year old now! She's happy and healthy and loves going to the dog park,
but we had a medical scare around a month ago. She had seemingly randomly developed
a bad infection that turned into an abcess, and we had to take
her to an emergency vet to get it taken care of. She ended up having to get the
abcess drained, which required surgery and for her to recover for a few weeks, which
was super scary and she was so so pitiful the whole time with a cone on.
Thankfully, she recovered fine, and the doctor gave permission to return her to
regular activity around two weeks ago. Ever since then she's been happy and crazy,
and loves sitting in her new windowsill perch!
Bunny's First Birthday
Her Windowsill PerchMy Office:
Something I was super excited about when moving was that we were getting a two bedroom apartment, which would allow me to have my own office. I've always needed more room for my gaming setup and hobbies, and I had always shared space with other people, so I was excited to have a room to do what I wanted with.
So far I have two desks, one for PC gaming and one for hobbies like model kits and miniature painting, and a futon for anyone staying the night. I also have two shelves for tools, electronics, collectibles, books, dvds, etc. The centerpiece of my office, however, is my retro gaming media center.
Retro Gaming:
A retro gaming media center is something I've always wanted and now I've finally had the resources to do it. I've been collecting retro games, consoles, and CRTs over the years so that one day I could put it all together, and that time has finally come. I'm so excited to finally have an office with a nice retro gaming setup, which contains the following:
- Nintendo 64
- FC Twin (Analogue output NES+SNES hardware clone)
- Nintendo Wii (RVZ-001, homebrewed)
- Playstation 2 (Fat, homebrewed)
- Macintosh SE
- 3 CRT TVs (JVC TM-9U(A), Sharp 13N-M100B, and Symphonic sc3909)
I'm really hoping to play more retro games now that I have really good
ways of playing them. After I finish the game I'm currently in the middle of
(Trails in the Sky on PSP, which I'm really enjoying) I think I'm going to play
Final Fantasy 2 (USA) on SNES next. I've played it a bit before, but this
time I really want to commit and finish my first Final Fantasy game now that
I have the ideal way to experience it.
With that being said, I'm super happy with my setup now, but I'm also excited to
gradually upgrade it over time. I'd love to add a Dreamcast and a larger CRT for more
comfortable viewing in the future.
Closing Remarks:
Now that
I finally feel settled into my new place and schedule, I'm getting that itch
to work on my hobbies more, including this one. Something I'd really love to start
here is a media log of some kind, especially since I'm getting back into reading.
The media log may be it's own thing, or I may just start making smaller posts
discussing media right here, I still haven't decided. I'd also like to
make pages or posts of some kind talking about my collections, like games, movies,
consoles, books, manga, electronics, etc.
Thanks for giving this a read, and sorry for taking so long for this update. Until
next time! (next time shouldn't take as long)
