Hi again! It's been a few months since I've last done anything here, so I wanted
to make sure to give an update of what's been going on. Last time I posted on here
I was in school for game development, but after going through a particularly rough
semester I made the difficult decision to take a break from school.
I've been home now since the start of 2025, and to be honest it's been pretty tough
on me. I've been working since I got back, but the hours and pay aren't nearly enough.
In the meantime, I've been trying to find somewhere better to work so I can start
saving up to both go back to school this fall, and to move in with my girlfriend in
the near future.
When it comes to going back to school, I'm honestly really conflicted about what to
do next. If I continue with my plans to go into professional game development, I'm
going to have to switch majors to computer science because of the new school I'd
be going to. I guess it's more versatile than game programming as a major, but
as I've been job searching (and hearing constant news of layoffs and the like)
I've become less optimistic about the market for all programming jobs in general.
I've started to rethink if I should make game dev my career or if it's better to
stay a hobby. Obviously I'd still love to spend my live making games, and for what
it's worth, I still plan to do exactly that. I love game development with everything
that is in me, but if I can't comfortably support myself then how am I going to
keep making games? I know for a fact that whether I make it my job or not, I will always
continue making games. Whether I go back to school for a different major, or even
if I say "screw it" and learn a skilled trade instead, my passion for games is never
going to go away.
Something else I wanted to say is that I won't abandon working on this site. I've
always had trouble continuing projects once I start them, but this is one project
I don't plan on adding to that pile. I don't know how often I'll be making
updates, but what I can promise is that they won't stop without fair warning
and good reason.
Now, there are a few ideas I have for things I want to add to the site in the future.
The first addition that I'm the most excited for is a guestbook or comment section
of some kind. Screaming into the void is cool and all, but it's also nice to know
if there's someone out in that void that heard you. Also community is cool and I'd
love to make some online friends. Some other stuff that I'd like to add at some point
are a last.fm page or something similar, and more pages to talk about more different
kinds of media I like (film, books, manga, etc).
Finally, I'd also like to post more often about smaller, more casual things than big
life updates like I've been doing. I've always been too intimidated by Twitter to
post on there, but it's not like someone already browsing my own site wouldn't care
about what I have to say, right? So yeah, I'd like to start using these posts
to talk about fun stuff like games I've been playing, projects I'm starting, gushing
about favorite media, and other things I may feel like talking about.
